Incense from Thailand

Beautiful colours!

Enjoy these images, recently taken in Bangkok. The pictures  describe how bamboo and wood pulp become sticks and cones.

So here is the story.

Cones Being Packed Kaleidoscope of Sticks Incense Packing

Coloured cones being packaged. The vibrant colours are obtained from natural plant dyes. Dyes are  applied to the cones first, then the fragrance is added.

Many cultures prefer coloured sticks as part of the ceremonies for which the incense is intended. Luckily, the colours remain brilliant for a long time.

20 sticks are counted per pack of incense. A lot of care is taken to ensure that they are of uniform thickness and length.

Drying Incense in a Field Packing Assembly Line Ladies Packing Incense

As far as the eye can see, hundreds of these dazzling incense bouquets, in every rainbow colour, are neatly lined up to dry in the warm sun. A very unique sight.

Many assembly tables, like this one, line the vast open air tents. Notice the light airy feeling.  In the long rainy season, all the work moves inside to a dry spot.
